The day after our dive we flew from Cairns Airport to Central Australia to do a four day tour of the Red Center. We met up with our tour and they turned out to be a really nice group of people; the tours bus driver in particular was a bit of a lad. We started our trip with a five hour journey to Uluru, known as Ayers Rock to most. We stopped off a few times at random stations few and far between. The camel station was particularly cool as there was the oppertunity to ride camels. However, i chose not to as i was concerned as to whether the camel could support my hench and muscular figure!
Eventually we reached Uluru, however, today was not the day for an upclose view. Instead we went to an equally impressive site know as Atilla. We walked a quick 45 minutes through the area before returning to our truck to drive to Ayers Rock viewpoint where we would view the sunset over the rock. Unfortunatly it was overcast so we couldn't see the full sunset, though it was still impressive in parts. That night we stayed in the Ayers Rock Resort; accommadation located within the World Heritage National Park.
The next morning was an early start, 4.45. The purpose of this was simple, as we did not see the sunset, we would see the sun rise over Uluru instead. However, it was not meant to be. As the group of us walked around the base of the rock it was overcast and raining very heavily. Although intially this may have seemed unfortunate, it was a rarity as only 1% of all visiters to the park get to witness Uluru covered in miniature waterfalls. After our wet hike we had a quick stop at the visitor center after which we made our way to our next nights accommadation, Kings Creek Station. We stopped off to collect firewood as the next two nights we would be sleeping outside in swags(hardened sleeping bags) and thus needed a little extra to keep us warm on the cold desert nights. However, it was not cold desert nights that we should have been worried about...it was Jack Wheeler. His ridiculously loud snoring kept everyone up; so i rallied up the troops and we all dragged Jack roughly 20 meteres away from everybody else in the sleeping circle!
The following day involved another early start as we would be hiking Kings Canyon, a short but hilly walk overy very large boulders and undulating terrain. This was very fun especially standing over the high drops. The afternoon was also very cool as 9 of the group including Geoff rented out quadbikes which we took on the dirt tracks. This was very awesome as the track was covered in massive bank turns and out cropping branches and bushes. After leaving Jack in my wake i managed to narrowly miss overturning my quad but then crashing into a tree leaving a nice big gash on my arm! Jack then managed to swereve around me and hit a tree of his own!
The last day of our tour we took a longish drive all the way back to Alice Springs where we went to visited the Flying Doctors. That evening we were given a short reptile show, where we held various snakes and lizards which was followed by kareoke and getting absolutely s***faced! After embarassing myself trying to rap linkin park's in the end we all went out to the only club in Alice Springs and enjoyed out last evening together.
The next day Jack and I flew to Perth, very hungover. We stayed in Perth for 5 days which for the most part was pretty uneventful. We did see Jack Johnson live at the Perth Oval which was very cool and we also got very drunk with two Aussi guys from our hostel. Jack naturally was completely outclassed and went home at 830, whereas i came back at 12 and chundered subway all over the window sill! Pop onto facebook if you want to see the picture! The next morning we left Oz to go to Singapore and the rest of south east Asia and yes we were hungover for our flight, yet again!
