Well today I got to tick another off my want to see list.
I joined 7 others on a small tour of the sights around Xian. There were 3 Chinese Americans and 4 Germans who were all good value. We started with the mausoleum of emperor qin and also the Hanjing tomb. However the highlight was seeing the Terracotta warriors. The museum attached was fascinating and a real insight to life 2000 years ago. Not only did the emperor believe in after life hence building an army to take with him there are also thousands of terracotta animals and a kitchen! The only things he took with him which we're real was Jewellery and his concubines, which he buried alive!!!! So he could enjoy them in after life.
Even though the area were the warriors are being excavated is smaller than I thought it was still quiet incredible to see. I also got to meet and shake hands with the farmer who discovered the sight in 1974. He worked the land for the state and was digging for water to build a well! He's a real celebrity in china. Even got him to sign my terracotta warriors book. Tourist!!
The tour lasted 9 hours which included lunch. All up was $100 nz but $60 was entry to the sights so it was vfm!
Afterwards the Germans were kind enough to invite me to dinner and beers so had a fantastic day all round.
