Bula Bula!
We have just got back from the 2 week island pass around the fiji islands. Its been an interesting 2 weeks! We started off going up to one of the northern islands - it took about 5 hours on the boat to get there. We started off on Tavewa island. It was really nice - great snorkelling and nice buffet food and fijian entertainment! From there we did another 6 islands staying at most for 2 nights each. They were all quite similar really - all had beaches and water activities and not a lot else. But they all had amazing scenery! One resort called Sunrise lagoon had really funny entertainment - 2 really camp men called Queen and Britney Spears (?!) did dancing for us and they must have done the same dance to at least 6 different songs - by the end of it i was just thinking oh please not again! We also did the Bula dance most nights which is kind of like the Macerena but with a few extra moves thrown in and with a big BULA at the end! We also went to the Blue lagoon which was just amazing - the water was so clear and we snorkelled and saw literally hundreds of really cool fish (and then a snake so i got out quick!).
We made friends with some nice people - hello to Jenny, Kate, Sophie, Dennis and John and any others. We played a few drinking games with them on the nights where we had nothing to do. The vegetable game was the funniest!
Most of the resorts we stayed at were quite basic (although they did have electricty on them powered by a generator during parts of the day and night) and alas there was no hot water. We kind of got used to it fairly quickly though. One resort we went to though was awful - the food was disgusting - first night was chicken bones and rice, second night was chicken bones and potato and for lunch it was hairy noodles and if you were lucky maybe a dead fly thrown in for good measure! The shower was just a drip so i just didnt shower. Me and liz tried to go on a trip but the boat broke down and we sat on a beach for 2 hours stranded. Basically it was awful! It was only bearable as there were quite a lot of us there and we just laughed about it as it was either laugh or cry!
The last 2 islands were ace though and the last night we had a BBQ and ive never tasted food so darned good!
I went swimming with sharks also which was really cool. There was about 6 in total and they were about 1-2 metres long. It was a bit scary at first getting in with them but they were quite friendly apart from when i stroked it and then it snapped at a few of us. We all quickly backed off! Definately worth doing though! The coral was ace as well. Me and Cazza also went on a ride kind of like a bananna boat but where you had to lie on a round disc on your stomach and hold on. It was loads harder than a bannana boat and we fell off 5 times i think. I was mid conversation with Carol then the next minute i was about 5 miles behind her in the sea as i got flung off! Ive never laughed so much but now my whole body aches!
We also did a village trip whch was good and we definately saw real fiji - we talked with a school teacher for a while and saw how they all lived. Apart from that we sat in hammocks and on the beach etc.
The last night me and Carol decided to go in a dancing competition where we had to dance in the middle of a cirlcle where i just fell on my arse mid jive. We think we should have won to be honest!
Ive definately had enough of beaches and hot weather now and cant wait for the cold weather of New Zealand! We have just got back to the mainland and im doing my washing (as it all stinks!) and we can choose our own food which is luxury and im even going to have a hot shower tonight woo!
We fly in the morning so i will keep you updated with the antics in NZ! x
