We arrived at Mike´s house in the afternoon on Saturday and very proud we were to have found it with no map! Mike was very excited to see Matt and we sat with Mike and his girlfriend Jayne and had a few beers in the sunshine in their back garden.
Gem needn´t have worried about not having any clothes to wear to a swanky cocktail night at a Melbourne nightclub as Jayne sorted her right out! Dress, shoes, makeup, jewellery - the works. We got a taxi into town and were dropped at the Blue Diamond nightclub. Actually it is called a premier penthouse live entertainment and cigar lounge! And, wait for it.....Mike had paid for a free bar!!!! We had a fantastic night, the views from the 15th floor of Melbourne city centre were amazing and the live band were brilliant. It was the Melbourne cup weekend so lots of people arrived later with their hats and fascinators on and it was a real hoot on the dancefloor. We went home earlier than most, think we had made the most of the free bar and it´s not that we are getting old, just that we have been going to sleep when it gets dark so we think we did well to last until 1am!
The next day Mike and Jayne had arranged a BBQ so after a delicious fried egg and bacon bap courtesy of Jayne for breakfast we started celebrating Mike´s birthday again. It was around this time that Scott (Matt´s best mate from home) began texting saying he might book a flight to Oz and come and stay with us for a few weeks. By the time the BBQ was lit we received a text to say his flight was booked and we were to pick him up on Nov 8th at Sydney airport! Scott planned to stay with us for just over 3 weeks then spend a week with Mike in Melbourne. It was a very nice day so we all sat outside and drank into the small hours, Mike and Matt both excited that they would both be seeing a great friend very soon. The food was so nice after so much pasta at camp and it was lovely to stay in a real bed for 2 nights! Mike and Jayne were fabulous hosts and we really enjoyed our stay.
On the Monday morning when we went to leave (after doing some washing and using the dishwasher etc) the camper wouldn´t start! Jayne kindly left work early and came back with some jump leads. She lent them to us in case we had the same problem again and Scott could bring them back with him so it worked out quite well.
So, onto the next part of our Australian adventure and we will be 3 again with Scott!
