Arrived on plane to Surat Thani and quickly jumped on a bus with a ticket to get to Ko Samui. Arrived at the pier and got on the boat to take us across the water for our first Thai Island experience. Booked a room in a beach bungalow from a very sweaty thai man, not sure if it would work out, but in the end it did. However the room was not the 5 star accomodation we were hoping for, 1 star probably would be too high! But we got some food and fell asleep after the long journey.
Woke and decided to find somewhere else to stay, but after an hour or so walk down the beach in a place called Manam, we couldn't find anything. So after a bakery lunch we decided to move onto the next town the following morning.
As we set off to a place on the east of Samui called Lamai, it started to rain, not what we wanted! We arrived at a resort that was even worse than the previous, basically a thai farm yard, where you had to stay in chicken sheds! Needless to say we moved on! After finding somewhere better to stay we decied to hit the beach, but after a brief spell there, we were driven in by the rain.
The next week was spent in similar circumstances, dodging the rain, going to the bakers oven (english bakery), reading in the hut and watching films in a restuarant at night. Decided to stay somewhere nice for Beths birthday, so booked into a hotel with nice rooms, pool, tv, hot shower in order to relax before moving onto Ko Phan Yang.
Had a good day on beths Birthday, had cards from home to give her, and i managed to do some secret shopping to get her a present. Lazy day by the pool and then out in the evening. Beth bought some cushion covers, with some birthday money, but these are not the best thing to try and pack in a rucksack! The day after we visit grand parent rocks - Hin Yai and Hin Ta - not sure why there named that as the look like the male and female reproductive organs! But very amusing!
After our all too brief stay in luxary we had to move on to another island now the weather had cleared up. Enjoyed samui, even though we didn't really do much or go anywhere!!!
