In the morning we found a 'Jumping Pillow'. And much fun followed. A 'Jumping Pillow' is basically a cross between a bouncy castle and a trampoline. After our morning excercise we had a quick look around the bay in Timaru and the old lighthouse before heading off to Lake Tekapo. We were given a Tourism Guide which syncs into the radio at points of interest. While driving towards Tekapo, it cut in and told us about a mountain-top observatory which ran tours in the evenings allowing you to look through their telescope, but it turned out to be $105 each, so we just decided to drive up there and check out the view by day. The 360 views of Lake Tekapo and the surrounding mountains we got were spectacular, althogh extremely cold. Conveniently they have a cafe up there, so we got a couple of mochas to warm us up. As we went down Mt John, the sun was setting and the clouds were rolling in thick and fast, so its a good job we decided not to do the tour that evening. Our nights accommadation was a 'DOC' site (Department of Conservation). They are free, although some use an 'honesty box' system. It was really in the middle of nowhere, so it took some finding, but the view to wake up to was worth it.
