It was only another 45 minute drive until we were in Paihia; the main mainland town in the Bay of Islands. It's a really nice town, one of, if not the best seaside town I've been to. There's no gaming arcades or funfairs just little shops, cafes and spectacular views. Also, probably the main reason I like it so much is there is so much fishing! We have even booked on a six hour fishing trip to try and catch some Kingfish tomorrow! If that's not enough fishing we spent most of the day fishing of the rocks, not that I caught anything but it was perfect weather, not a cloud in the sky or a wave on the sea. The rest of the day was spent walking and taking in the immense scenery, its definitely the best place we've been in the north island. I didn't sleep to well probably because I was excited about catching a massive Kingfish! It was an early one, we needed to be on the boat for 7am which mean a 5.30am alarm time. It was still dark when we got up but by the time we set sail the sun was just rising causing the entire sky to turn red. To make things even better it was just me, Mel and the skipper on board so we had the whole boat to ourselves which never happens! I was getting a good feeling about the trip. I'd like to say we both caught tonnes of record breaking Kingfish and the trip was well worth the money and worth getting up at stupid o'clock for, but I can't! I guess it would of just been too perfect if that had happened. Although Mel did catch a fair sized Snapper and a couple of smaller ones, where as I caught an extra small Snapper and a poisonous Scorpion fish. But no Kingfish. We tried everything, and none of the boats around us caught any either they must not of been hungry that day. It was quite disappointing after such a good start but we did see some dolphins, and Mel's Snapper got turned into the best fish and chips I've had in a long time. I'm hoping all my bad luck with fishing recently will mean there is a load of fishy luck just around the corner, maybe Fiji will be better. It was about 2pm by the time we set off back down towards Auckland. We spent our last night with Irene in an i-site car park, it's hard to believe we've been here five weeks.
