We arrived in LA after 2 flights as we had to change at Chicago. We got a shuttle bus to the hostel this time hehe. We stayed at the Orbit, this place was quite laid back and seemed quite nice (proper hostel this time) although when we got in the room later there was a faint odour of sick in the corner of the room but not too bad and Mel had some horrible stains on the bed linen they gave her. After that we got a taxi up to the Hollywood boulevard (Rusty quote) hollywood boul was bloody awful, about a million t-shirt shops and sex shops - CALM DOWN TRIS, haha. Did get to find the Motley Crue and Kiss stars on the street though-sweet. We missed Kevin Costner by a week damnit, he was at the chinese theatre putting his hands and feet print in the ground. (end) Yup as Russ said it was tacky, loads of Tatoo places too, and every b***** wants a tip for anything, even down to the dressed up people on the street, me and Rusty got a photo with an unconvincing Homer and had to tip him. There was hundreds of stars so we walked the strip, Mel was chuffed as she found Patrick Swayze's and Tom Cruises Stars - (yes GiGi I got a photo of Patricks Star shame I didn´t see him in person haha!) We also ate at a nice Mexican place. At the Chinese theatre we found out that to get the hand and shoe prints they have to have met some criteria; so many block busters, money made, money donated and the film company has to pay a million for the honour. (Rusty quote) Went to a cool club same night as well through hostel, so a few of us together, was like the splash but better and smaller, live bands playing Velver revolver, guns n roses, metalica and more. Someone did say that dizzy from guns n roses was playing on stage when i was watching but since i have no idea what he looks like and even if there is a dizzy, could of been rubbish. (end) Met quite a few people on the night, some lads from cambridge, and a mad Aussie trio (Tony, Anne-Marie and Alison) who we had a laugh with. Next day we were up early for the Tour (Rusty quote) Went for a great tour through LA with a pretty cool driver, went round loads of star homes and saw Britney Spears mum haha. well fun. Even went to South Central LA - NO s***- and stopped to talk to 5 gang members, our driver knew them from touring the area haha, sounds dodgy and was, bloody scary too since i was in the front seat when we stopped, I must of looked a sight when the bloke asked me if i wanted some weed - AH NO THX MAN, great answer shame my balls were retreating up my throat haha. Did get to see the street where TRAY dies in boyz in the hood that was cool. Drove down skid row as well, hundreds and hundreds of homeless, bloody mad. (end) Yeah the tour was sweet, loads of star homes, Tom Cruise (they all think he is a weirdo over here now) Mel Gibson, Samuel L Jackson, Jim Carey, Richard Gear to name a few, also some from films, the Bodyguard house and also the Cunninghams from Happy Days, hehe :) Man the South central bit was scary, I didnt feel safe at all, the member who stuck his head in called Mel Frecks, and one of them asked for donations for one of their friends funerals who had been shot! Glad to leave there, Skid row was also scanky with the homeless, looked like a scene from Night of the Living dead and the crazy thing was the largest LAPD station in the city was on the next block! We also went to Rodeo Drive where the Rich and Famous shop, the area looked very posh, all the buildings had a marble effect and everywhere was clean and looked rich. The tour guy told us that nothing in the shops has prices on and if you have to ask for a price it means you can´t afford it!! We saw the hotel used in the film ´Pretty Woman´ called ´The Beverly Hills Wilshire´in this area too, we were allowed in to look around and were even allowed to use the restrooms they were very posh had individully wrapped hand towels and Molten Brown hand wash!! Felt really out of place in there as backpackers we must have looked it as well! We also went to visit Venice beach had few lifeguard stands on the beach as used in Baywatch Í´ll be Ready..!!´ and lots of grafeti and tacky shops and people trying to sell you stuff on the streets along the edge of the beach. Seemed a nice beach though had half an hour to look around before getting back on the tour bus and heading up to a brill spot where we could take cool pics of the Hollywood sign!! On the way back to the hostel we drove through a nice housing area with canals running between them was quite pretty, then gave the guy a tip. We used the internet at the hostel to book a hostel for the next few nights as we were off to San Fran, luckily we looked at reviews as one of them could have been quite bad to stay in from what people had said!! We managed to book one then headed up to Hollywood where we hung out and caught the Greyhound bus at 10 to San Francisco, 8 hour trip!! We had to wait outside in the cold as the Greyhound station closes at 9 and there was this weird tramp guy necking cider and gobbing on the floor near us yuk!!
