We spent two days camping on Fraser Island, it was so beautiful and lots of fun! We went on a tour, altogether there were ten of us and everyone was really nice. Our tour guide was a crazy oz with dreads down to his bum eek!
Fraser Island is the worlds largest sand island and is particulalrly special as it has a beautiful rainforest on it with plants and trees that are rarely found living on sand. We were taken in a 4wheel drive and the guy bombed it down the beach! The island is about 100km long so the drive is miles of beautiful coastline. You can't go in the sea however, unless you want to be shark food! EEK!
We visited an old Japanese war ship wreckage which was pretty amazing! As well as trekking through a desert to reach a beautiful freshwater lake. The rainforests are beauiful, but lots of deadly bugs eek! We also spent a few hours at the glorious Lake McKenzie- so stunning (pic above). It is freshwater and the sand has cilica in it so you can exfoliate all over your body and it is as smooth as baby's bum after!
The camping was lots of fun, but not so fun after seeing some sort of furry spider ARGH! IT WAS MASSIVE! (REALLY!) ANd our tent was ripped (it happened to start raining as we were going to bed!), we had to sleep on the most disgusting mattresses and use THE most disgusting sleeping bags, but apart ffrom that it was awesome and SO worth it!
We also did 'Pi Pe' races... when the vans whizz over the sand the pi-pe's (like muscles) come up from under the sand, we gathered them up and then stood round in a circle and waited to see who's could dig under the sand the quickest- very exciting! They tasted nice raw but even nicer on the barbie that night with salt (sorry mum), pepper and lemon! yummy!
All in all such a great trip! Highly recommend it!
Oh and we were acosted by a poisnous dragon of some sort (in pics)! It was a vicious b***** that whips its tail with a great 'thwack' argh!
