I am now in magical Hampi with my boyfriend. Hampi is a world heritage site and was once the powerful and wealthy capital of a kingdom. The landscape is made up of big rock boulders piled on top of each other looking like the playground of giants. In the planes stretching out below there are impossibly green rice fields where the locals harvest the plants by hand and carry them in big bundles on their heads. But the main attraction in Hampi are the many stone temples and statues. They were carved out of stone hundreds of years ago and you can still see the amazing craft in the old stone.
We have been bumping along the small roads on an old moped, admiring the views and surroundings. We climbed the 500 steps up to The Monkey Temple where there were monkeys everywhere. Up from the temple the views were breathtaking, you could see the landscape stretching all around in every direction.
Yesterday we went on a guided tour with a friendly, honest tuktuk driver we met the other day. There are so many sites that we decided on taking the tour to cover it all. We started out early in the morning, but the whole tour took about 6 hours so the sun was blazing down at us soon enough. We saw most of the amazing old buildings and statues but we were exhausted by midday. My boyfriend got a heatstroke from the extreme sun so we have had a lazy day today.
Tomorrow we are leaving Hampi on another night bus. We'll arrive close to the airport in Goa and from there my boyfriend is flying back home and I'm going to Varanasi to celebrate the Holi festival.
