Ok a quick update about the past few weeks.....
We arrived in Fiji on the 25th March after an exhaustingly long 15 hrs of flights (but with good food and good film and tv choices - we are now big fans of Air NZ) and went through the most lax customs ever. The guy was sending a text when i got to the desk and i had to wait! We then got on a local bus and started the two hour journey to the beach house where we were staying.
It was a real experience! It was THE hottest bus known to man and we were the only tourists on it. The driver drove super fast the whole way there and seemed to stop at random places on the way. We were slightly concerned we'd end up in the middle of knowhere, but it was all ok in the end and we arrived at the right place and on time too!
We checked in and headed to our dorm room which we shared with two brummie lads for the first part of the week and then two (very annoying) norweigen girls for the secon part of the week. The rooms were cool and spacious and were everything we needed them to be. We then went straight to the pool for a dip to cool off.
The beachouse is on the south coast of then main island of Fiji and when the tide is in there is a lovely blue lagoon which we swam in and we also got the kayaks out a few times too. Saw lots of brightly coloured fish and some blue starfish, and some other random things which we weren't sure about. There waves broke about 400 metres away from the shore due to a coral reef which runs acrossthe south of the island.
We spent most evenings either playing cards or chatting to people we had met (they werent all annoying and norweigen).
On Monday we went on a jungle treck up to a really wicked waterfall. Took us about an hour and a half to get there and the same back. It was a brilliant! Our guide was a guy from the local village who was really knowledgable about the plant life etc, and he took some good pics too (will put a few up soon - promise)! It was a really interesting experience, and we got to swim the the pool and under the water fall at the end too, which made it all the better.
Had a few cloudy days at the end of the week which did put a dampener on things a little bit, but overall we enjoyed Fiji a lot. Looking forward to getting the camper van and exploring New Zealand now!
