After an undisturbed night and a dark morning no-one is in any rush to move this morning so it is after 11:00 when we finally hit the road for Sanlucar de Barrameda.
We skirt Seville then head southwest towards Cadiz. The landscape becomes very flat and lush with bright green grass and other early crops. Little whitewashed towns sit on small rises and white horses graze in fenced paddocks.
As we near the coast the temperature rises to 16C and the sky is all blue. We find the beach-side aire in time for lunch and get two of the sea-view pitches. After lunch we wander along the promenade as the tide is refilling the flat estuary. Despite the sun there is a cold Atlantic breeze so we head into the town.
Walking through one small square there is a powerful scent of orange zest, enough to make us sneeze. Workers are using hooked poles to knock the fruit out of the roadside trees then shovelling them into bins, so we assume the fruit is not good for eating.
Plaza del Cabildo is a hive of activity; tall, black lads peddle handbags and sunglasses; a carpet of pigeons struts about around the central fountain; oranges hang from the trees [for now anyway] and a few people sit at bar terraces with a drink. We stop for a small beer while we wait for the Tourist Info to open.
In the T-I a woman with very good English tells us about things to do and see in Sanlucar. Armed with leaflets and maps we return to the aire and watch a beautiful sunset before using the literature to,make plans for tomorrow.
