Having slept off the worst of our colds we take things easy this morning before getting ready for a walk. Bright sunshine hides the bitter northerly breeze, but it feels good to be out.
This area is criss-crossed with foot and cycle paths and bridleways, of which the site has provided us with a map. We go firstly through a small wood where crocus and snowdrops are breaking out under the trees. The woods thin out to sand dunes with thick layers of maram grass. We can hear the sea but the tarmac and gravel runs out and the final climb over the dunes is soft sand. We go part way back and take another path towards more woods and are surprised to see a young fallow deer less than 30 feet away. Ali lines up her photo but the deer is spooked by a speeding cyclist and the moment is gone.
On the way back to the campsite we spot an inviting cafe where coffee and toasties warm us nicely. We pass the site heading for the town centre but the wind is cold so we about-turn and go back to the van.
