After our nice break in Krakow, we knew we had a one road jaunt up to Warsaw, it was likely to be a bit of a slog, as there are no motorways from now on, until maybe Russia. Our journey was on the E77 for 300ks. After a bumpy start out of Krakow, we joined the cars and lorries to Warsaw, and that is about all I can say, the road surface was okay most of the time, and was either dual carriageway or single lanes, we travelled through small towns and people often waved at us as we rumbled by, we saw a few more bikes than we have since entering Croatia. We reached Warsaw and promptly got lost looking for the Harley dealer, then after a few choice words and following our noses we found it, took the photo, got our bearings and made it to the B&B about 4pm, quite late for us. The stern B&B lady explained we had not given ourselves enough time to see the city, but we would need a cab to get food. We caught the cab and made it to the town ate, the meals were HUGE, mooch about and waited by a large fountain with lots of other people the fountain is set to music and lasers each Friday, we watched the show, having got soaked when it first started, wandered back, caught another cab, three times the price, because of night rates! at 9pm.
Sat 6th July to Vinus Lithuania.
Next day, weather still good even though it promised to be overcast with showers, made our way out of Warsaw, promptly got lost, followed our noses and found the right road, (who needs a sat nav), the roads out of Warsaw were light traffic, but the road was badly rutted by the large numbers of lorries. We expected this to be a long day, up to 8 hours, it was only lst night after re checking our planned route we had to change it, as it was going to take us through Belarus, and you need visas for that, which take three weeks, so a re-jig and found a route round it, only adding a small number of miles onto the planned route. I was unsure what the roads were going to be, but was suprised, they were fine, and as long as you accepted you had to pass lots of lorries, it was an easy but long journey. We rode through agricultural lands and lots of forests, we passed through the centre of Europe a small town in Poland and had to double back to get the photo, no mean feat, when the roads are busy with artics, who give no quarter. We stopped at a town at a Macdonalds, it was hot and sticky so the air con is welcomed, after a cool down and food, the final run to Lithuania, we chose to ignore google maps and use the stand out one in the map book, now using the harley touring book, as the real map book does not cover this area at all well, and this will be the case until out of Russia. So it is a little guess work as well. The roads seem to improve once we cross into Lithuania, there are not many of them, so it is easy not to get lost, we follow the E238/A16 which takes us into Vilnius, we got into town and surprise surpise we promptly got lost, now I am very hot and bothered it has been a long day and love for money we cannot find the right road, even got turned back as going up a one way the wrong way, then I just take a chance and turn down a road and find we are back on track, until we hit the road the hotel is on, but no hotel?? in the end we speak to a local, after some arm waving, we realise we are in the pedestrian area, and I remember something about, that you have to go up a pedestrian zone, the wrong way to get to it. We do this and find it, as it is in an old monastery next to a church, it is hidden away and a welcome sight.
