We had a cold wet, grey day travelling from Romania to Bulgaria, everybody was on tender hooks as this is the first challenging border crossing, but it went smoothly, hooray for the EU! The difference between the two countries was instant, Romania was full of rubbish, and ferrel dogs, and old ex communist buildings falling down, those with money build compounds and ignore what is outside of their area.
Bulgaria is much better, this is still a poor country, by our standards, but they seem to look after it better.
We stopped at the old Bulgarian capital Veliko Tarnovo for three hours, had a bit of grub and wandered to a very nice fortress, we did not have much time, but the views were nice through the low cloud. The chapel within the fortress had some interesting paintings inside it!
We travelled onto the campsite just outside the town, the weather is still wet and windy and we have had to put the awning up on the truck to keep the cook area dry.
Campsite really nice, set on a hillside with lovely views. It is run by brits so have taken the opportunity to have a full english breakfast following a very wet and tent rattlingly windy night.
Weather now hot and sunny so have taken a walk into the village via a very muddy field and a lake. Bush camping somewhere in turkey tommorow.

Lynda Murray Hi Both. Torrential rain here yesterday afternoon will try not to send it your way. Sounds as though you are both getting webbed feet, will be great for the sea crossings they will be able to use you as paddles! We are off to Broadstairs this w/e (cheap travelodge) so are packing wellies, souwesters and oilskins. Amazing the difference a few miles makes in the EU. How's the diary going?
