Lyon to Sestre levant
We drive out of Lyon in rush hour, but the sat nav takes us out quickly and we head on the autoroutes to Italy so it was a blast all the day through the mountains and tunnels of France and Italy, we pass through the tunnel Frejus which cost a whopping 27 euros, but after about 30 mionutes we passed into Italy. The weather was hot and it was a joy to see snowy mountains then the land turn into more flat lands. The auto routes were quiet until we reached Genoa, so cruise control on and sit at 80MPH all day, listening to music. Once got nearer to Genoa,it was tunnel after tunnel, or roads on stilts, we lost count of the tunnels after about 35. We stopped at Genoa and visted the harley shop, then on to our stop at Sestri Levant.
This was a typical beach area, with painted houses all along the front to mimic Frescos. one end of the beach was given over to boat building, I mean cruise liners!, still it was a sweet bay, we had our first Pizza and ice cream here.
More Harleys arrived at our hotel in the night and we saw a few throughout the day, all making their way South.
Sestri to Monticiano via Pisa and San Gimignano
We rejoin the autoroute for the short trip to Pisa. It is very hot now, and we are regretting the bike kit, but hey it could be raining!.
A quick visit to Pisa, Yuk we stop at the bike park near the leaning tower, Jack hops off (literaly), to take some photo's I have lots of African people trying to sell me their wares. It is very busy. Guess who turns up but our two friends we met crossing the tunnel. We share yarns one has bought a cusion for his seat! and is still not smiling. We get off quickly, they are staying abit longer.
We then have to find the route to San Gimignano we are not using the sat nav, but end up having to as the roads seems to be going in circles, and I get grumpy cause I am hot!. A stop in a Mcdonald's sorts us out and cools us off, (they are air conditioned) and we eventually find the road we want to go on,even though Sat Nav wants to go on autoroutes.
We reach San Gimignano after a beautiful ride through twisties and scenery, the towers you can see for miles. we park the bike and join the tourists for a bit, lots of harleys here, we have an ice cream from a world champ maker. Then make our way to Monticiano, our hotel has a swiming pool so its book in and splash to cool down, we sunbathe and await our chapter mates to arrive as we ride into Rome with them tomorrow.
