We arrived at Queenstown late and so quickly checked in at our camp site. After a long days drive we decided to treat ourselves to a drink or two. When we arrived on the waterfront we saw a bar called minus five! We decided to explore this pub and realised it was a ice bar! We were unable to resist this and so ran inside and signed up for our ice session! When we entered the ice bar we were informed the temperature was -8degrees and so we needed special thermal jackets and gloves (some women had to wear some special boots). We made sure we were first into the bar and were straight at the bar for a cheeky cocktail before exploring the statues and other ice sculptures. We sat on the ice sofa and finished our first drinks when we saw a opening at the bar. Sophie being the small ninja that she is soon weaved her way through the crowd and ordered in the next set of drinks and we finished exploring the rest of the bar. We were only allowed to be in the ice bar for 30 mins for health and safety reasons and so we were all eventually chucked out. We headed home for a earlish night so we were fresh for our adventure tomorrow morning.
The next morning we were up and dressed early to head to our destination to start our adventure in white water river rafting. We were suited and booted in thermals and wet suits so that we could hardly breath or move. Somehow we all mangaged to squeeze onto a coach and head to the helicopter that was waiting to take us to the start point of the rafting. The helicopter nearly blew Sophie away when it landed but luckily her suit and boots anchored her to the floor. We jumped into the helicopter where the pilot started showing off his skills swerving inbetween the mountains and turning last minute when heading straight at mountains! We somehow survived the helicopter ride but then faced the next challenge, raft down the shotover river where all the drops are rated 4 and 5 stars....... Challenge accepted! The river was freezing which gave us incentive to stay in the boat, somehow no one actually fell out of the boat however when we approached other boats we had to splash each other so we all managed to get wet! We finally reached the bottom of the river and again bought all of the professional photos of us rafting and in the helicopter for evidence. Another death defying stunt to add to our never ending list!
