Today we packed a bag and headed off to Watford. That would put us near to Kenton and Kingsbury where Dad lived as a boy of 5 to 10 years.
We got on to the M11 and then the M25 and with a few hiccups made it in to Watford. Booked in to the Holiday Inn and sailed forth to tackle the TomTom again!!
Well we did find number 11 Cranleigh Gardens and the lady gave us permission to take a photo of the house.
Then we went looking for the school that Dad went to. Found the high school but could not get to the primary school. As expected, lots of changes in 53 years!
We then found number 2 Leybourne Road but that was a bit sad. It was run down and up for sale.
After about 30 minutes of looking around the area Dad had seen enough.
The endless rows of semi detached as they call them, and the congested streets made us appreciate our open spaces and generous homes and gardens.
What I did note was that even though the semi's are scruffy and /or old, there are more Jag's, Mercedes, BMW's and Range Rovers parked outside them than i have ever seen.!!!
The streets are a nightmare to negotiate and country people are more gracious and always give you a wave when you give them right of way than the city people.
We have seen some of the trains and they go pretty fast.
We can see Watford station from our room.
The little VW Polo is good to drive and we ended up with an air conditioned one so when it said we had 24 degrees expected today we got a bonus.
We will probably get on the train and go in to London tomorrow and maybe the next couple of days as well.
Our plan is to head to Cornwall from here when we are ready.
