Headed off to the train station again this morning.
Today we are going to the Tower of London.
Had to change lines a couple of times because we went to Regent street first to get our London pass authorized and arrived at the Tower where we had an instant entry because of the London Pass. That was great because there were long queues.
There were lots of groups of tourists, I could hear all sorts of languages and see different nationalities.
Well, the Tower of London was an eye opener. It was not what I imagined. It is a huge complex with many buildings inside the walls.
We worked our way through 2 buildings before we came to the Crown Jewels.
They are in a very secure setup. We snaked our way through various exhibits relating to past monarchs and then entered the vault chamber. The doors on this vault weigh 2000 pounds each!
The crowns are magnificent, never have I seen so many diamonds, and the Rubies and pearls and emeralds all sparkle and shine. The other items like the scepters and orb, and gold anointing vessels and christening bowls etc are just magnificent craftmanship. They have to be seen to be believed.
On then to other exhibits in other towers and buildings. It certainly is a popular place for tourists.
The history of it all is amazing and the buildings cannot fail to impress.
The day was really great weather wise.
I noted too that of all the conversations going on around us there were very few English and it was a constant loud babble. All these overseas tourists... Not many Aussies that I could pick.
By the time we had finished in there, my feet and knees were aching as there are stairs everywhere.
Then to go to the underground and climb them or go down them I was absolutely bushed.
We had a different ride home tonight as they are doing work on different stations and so we had to transfer to a bus to complete our journey.
The underground is brilliant with the amount of trains that go through all the time, leaves Brisbane for dead, dead!!
I read today that the underground processes a billion people a year.
Will sleep well tonight!
