Monday 27th September
Another late, late morning... Well more afternoon. We decided to hit the recommended Orchard Road, think Oxford Street but much wider, nicer and less chavey. The weather was still stifling but the skies were full of grey clouds and not long after we had left the hotel it had begun raining.
Once stepping off the tube we were immediately greeted by the cool air-conditioning of the attached malls with many a Singaporean shopping the day away. We headed for the nearest food-court, intent on finding some decent food and we were not disappointed. The whole basement of the mall was kitted out with every food under the sun, the choice was endless and ridiculously cheap. All this was served by small communal eating areas, great for us as the veggie and meat eater was served by different stalls.
After a hearty lunch/dinner we wandered around the perfect malls and clean streets, marveling at the sheer number of shops and the amount of people browsing them. The streets had a Disneyland feel to them with huge pedestrianized areas with perfectly alined and shaped trees and no sign of any litter. After a while we reached the mall that TJ had been looking for, a much scruffier affair with hundreds upon hundreds of tiny shops filling it's eight floors. After much searching we eventually found the shop that Lin had recommended, a tiny trendy hairdressers.
The next hour was full of cuts and snips as Tejal's mass of hair was reduced to a stylish short curly bob. Lin's recommendation was a good one as TJ looked fantastic, her hair now a much fresher and easier short curly bob. Every mirror and shop window we passed she stared back at her reflection, it would take her a good few days to get used to it, I loved it straight away. As evening fell we decided to go to the cinema, not the most touristy thing to do but it was something that we both missed from home. Again we were impressed with the facilities, everything was top notch just as you would expect and the tickets a quarter of the price compared with London. We went to see the new Wall Street film and both enjoyed it, the plot was fairly predictable but it was well acted and nice to revisit Michael Douglas' old character.
We left the cinema stopping by a nearby bar for a quick drink before heading home in the early hours of the morning.
