World Travelling with Mark And Lilly
Hello from Panama city this time as we have not been much in contact with the modern world lately and each time we try to download picture it does not work...
Well after few weeks in Costa Rica, we have discovered a beautiful, relaxed, less populated and less touristy country where the inhabitants are always happy to help us, to give us free ride or info.
Arriving from the paso canoas Border of Costa Rica , we did not manage to catch the last bus to Catalina, so we had to sleep in Sona in a horrible hotel with bed buggs (see pictures) one of the worst place we slept in... Mark slept on his boardbag as the matress was so thin!
The next day we arrived in the famous wave which we could not see from the bus. Thinking it was flat, we then discovered the Monster : 6 to 8 feet barelling wave, seems very powerful from the beach. With Becky we walked to find accomodation and got 2 small green houses that had just been finished belonging to a very friendly family.
The next two days, I tried to surf there and had my heart beat very fast, quite challenging, having to paddle like crasy every 10 minutes where a set broke (always at different places, a nightmare for my arms) I look like Rambo now!!!!! My Grandma is again going to say my shoulders look like men' s ones!!!!!
Aaron got quite a few waves, so did Mark but I only got 2 each session. My last one was great though and took me right to the beach where you had to learn to avoid the rocks sticking out of water.
On the first day, there was a photographer in a boat on the break so locals were playing at who is getting the deepest tube game. The photographer took very good picts of mark that you should find on the album. He was so proud and cant wait to show it to Andys Andy norton and smiler to make them jealous of not coming....
The friday we went to an island an hour away from the shore called sebaco where there is drugg traffic with Columbia. really cool day with a crasy boat driver who really scared us going that fast... my bum has bruises since!!!! He took us to Playa grande and wanted us to jump from the boat, we took a safer option and went to the beach first from where we saw a monster wave looking like Pipeline, we tried to surf the left instead, me and Becky were not really successful and prefered to relax on the beautiful beach. On our way back we stopped snorkelling but nothing impressive.
Saturday we took 7 buses to reach the other peninsula of Azuero, to reach playa Venao, the most quiet place I have been to. we were often alone in the water except for the sharks (hammerhead) and others.
the accomodation on the beach was full and horrid, so we stayed in a new eco ranch on the hill in the dorm with Aaron and Becky, nice place, nice kitchen.
we spent 10 days between surfing, relaxing, learning poker, darts, reading, walking and I went horseriding.
The horse gave birth to a fowl (fawl, fauwl) and I should have waken up to see it but I thought it was one of my weird dream again. At the end of the week we slept in the tent on the hill to save a bit of money and try what we had carried for three months without using it. We woke up to the sounds of the loud hawling monkeys in the trees next door. They were hard to spot though.
During our stay there, we baught yellow fin tuna three times to local fisher men, a huge one for 4 dollars and we barbecued it. one night there was no electricity and I put by mistake sugar on the fish.... people did not seem to complain too much though...
I am now getting good at cooking tuna..
in Venao we met some locals from panama city, Berta a very sweet surfergirl and Leo, Andres. It was lovely to see them again in the city.
On monday after semana santa, we said goodbye To The hutchens stanhope couple to go to the mountains of el valle, they were heading to Bocas.
the next chapter valle and panama city
