We have spent 4 nights at Tamala station, Shell beach, which was soooo beautiful. We used that as our base to get to Steep point, the most Westerly point on the mainland. Camping on the beach was stunning. We got a fair bit of use out of the kayak here, and we found that Comet didn't want to be left out. Spencer said it was his favourite spot yet.
Rain was forecast and apparently they just shut the roads, because they become like ice rinks. So we decided to skip the last night there and head off a day early. Lucky we did because a group (15 at least) fishermen with freezers and fridges, spot lights and the whole tamale...... Kept us up last night there and it was raining for our pack up.
We were on the road to Carnarvon, rain decending. We decide to stay in a caravan park there , it was just red mud...... At least we had hot showers.
We also realised in the pack up, that all one lot of bedding was saturated.
I found the only place in town that was pumping, was the laundromat .
Spent a bit of time to get stuff dry.
Off to the Space and Technology museum , for a simulated moon takeoff, a lot of fun. I was quite impressed with all the hands on exhibits, that was all that really impressed us with Carnarvon.
Off to Coral bay, very touristy. It was teeming with people all of a sudden, and the caravan park was packed like sardines. We had a woman gasping for breath during the night and it felt like she was in our trailer. That's not to mention the screaming child that went on for far too long.
We did have a snorkel though, it was lovely but I get the feeling it used to be a lot better. We have still been experiencing some strong winds and rain.
Off to Ningaloo station, drive 35 kms to the homestead, get key, then continue for another 14 kms to our spot, Lefroys bay south. We are camped just behind a small sand dune but still right on the beach. So many turtle bobbing their heads up. Can't wait for the wind to die down, to get out there and snorkel. I'm sure it will be way at Coral bay should be like.
Jonah is catching fish at long last, the drought is over.
Today we just popped up to Exmouth to get some school stuff for Spencer.
Stopped in at the Charles Knife lookout, an incredible view of the area.
Back to the station for some fish.
