It's been a lazy day, and that is how they like it here. I was walking normally down the sandy street when I heard a shout "hey man stop walking so fast!". It came from one of the Rastar locals that are indeed very chilled.
This is one of the charms of Caye Caulker, it's layed back Caribean vibe. It is not quite the picture perfect place, the sea grass scuppers it in that department but the people are fun and very friendly.
Caye Caulker is on the northern hemispheres largest barrier reef, it's appeal (and Mecca) for many divers is a 300 meter limestone sinkhole simply called the Blue Hole. To visit Belize you have to get wet, and with current water temperatures of 85 degrees F this is not much of a chore.
Caye Caulker has a strong afternoon breeze, this keeps the mosy's away and is wonderfully refreshing after a hot day. This breeze has kept the waves up however making it less than ideal for snorkelling and thus delaying a trip to the reef islands.
The afternoon has been spent swimming and lazing around the cabin. We are trying to not go out for something to eat as a meal costs as much as a nights accomodation. So we had some pasta sauce and some nachos (there is very little in the shops here). Next door however was a different story, a Spanish restaurant owner chef had caught some lobsters on his dive trip. He prowdly showed us the live lobsters on route to the pot describing how to get the best out of them and the sound they make when killing them, we repeatedly told him we are vegetarians. What seemed to be ages later he reappeared with numerous dishes more akin to a top hotel than the simple beach kitchen we have here.
Strangely I have spent a long time this evening looking at other peoples travel bloggs getting ideas for our final continent South America (it looks so good).
