We finally managed to drag ourselves away from Thailand into Malaysia, as difficult as it was to leave possibly as close to Paradise as we've been. We only supposed to stay in Ko Lanta for 2 nights but ended up staying for a week as it was so lovely and chilled, hence why theres been no entries for over a week! The accomodation was the cheapest and most luxurious we've had since being in Thailand, the locals were friendly, unbelievably trustworthy (compared to some of the thai's we've encountered) and full of character! Even the fellow travellers were nicer here...everything was just so chilled out. The beaches were lovely and we really cant rave about this place enough....book your tickets now!!! Apart from chilling out we did manage to do a few things and explore the island. We went caving and sea kayaking...the latter was much easier and cleaner. As you can imagine the cave wasn't adapted for tourists (think wookey hole...last century!?) and the journey through them involved climbing down rope ladders, balancing across logs to what seemed like a bottomless pit! All fun when you have dodgy torches and accompanied by bats and really big scary spiders!! The mud didnt help either Alaine slipped on her arse twice and is now bearing an attractive couple of bruises...oh well no pain no gain!
After this little adventure we once again were on the move, this time down through thailand into malaysia not knowing what to expect at the border. After another frustrating package bus ride, we ended up travelling 19 hours arriving into KL 2 earlier than scheduled...3am. Luckily enough we'd already booked accomodation so we made our way there on foot, ignoring all the fleets of taxi drivers as we had no currency.
KL is a breath of fresh air after Bangkok. We didnt realise how small it is and you can walk most of the centre in 2 days, which we have. Really reminds us of london, its very British and quite calm and organised, its made a good impression on us! We've done most of the sights, went shopping in Chinatown, had a curry in Little India and went to the tallest building in the world...KL's Petronas towers (twin towers-which you can see in the pic!) - which had a massive mall on the ground level (good retail therapy for alaine, but Mark needed some anger management afterwards) Didnt buy anything as it was all so expensive...but cant a girl look!??
People really freindly as well, and we went into one bar and the manager sat with us and gave us a few drinks on the house. Thought we'd get a locals opinion on where to go next...perhaps an island? and he told us to skip Malaysia and head over to Bali, he then helped us to find a cheap flight which we did for 75GBP return, so unplanned we're now writing this journal entry from Indonesia... oh the spontaneity of it all!!! Will update further from bali soon...
