Sorry if this cuts off abruptly, but I am about to go on a wine tour to Stellenbosch at any minute, and can hardly quell my excitement, as I'm expecting to be sozzled by 10.30am - see I told you I was cultured!
My whistle stop tour of Cape Town began yesterday with the Cape Point Tour - touristy I know, but what can you do when you've only got 3 days in such a great place where's there's so much to do. The tour takes you all round the Cape. To Hout Bay and Seal island, Simon's Bay & Gordon's Bay, the scenery is just phenomenal on the coast. I saw whales for the first time ever, they are huge - blatantly an understatement, but they were so close to the shore, and just nonchalantly playing around having fun. They've got wildlife to throw away here.
Today was a veritable fauna fest, and I've not even gone on safari yet; I saw whales, seals, penguins, ostriches, and baboons - all in a natural environment, pretty spectacular I'd say.
The picture you see below, I went there! It's the most South Westerly tip of South Africa, and if you don't believe me I've got a picture to prove it, right by a conveniently located sign that says "most south westerly tip of south africa".
I'm starting a collection of naff guides on tours - when I was in Poland my guide was a manic depressive, which made for a really upbeat day; but on my Cape Tour, my guide was called Doe or 'D'Oh' as I pronounced it, and if it puts you in mind of Homer Simpson, then you wouldn't be far wrong. The commentary had such highlights as, "yeah, there's a bird sanctuary over there...somewhere..on the left...I think...or is it the right?" So I won't recount any of the errr interesting facts, as they're probably completely made up. But the day was still brilliant, and I was the only english person on the trip, so it's great to be meeting so many different people from all over the world!!
