Hello people (or should we say Good Day Mate!)
We have arrived in the land of Oz. After a 9 hour flight we had the warmest welcome by Pete's sister who is currently living here and putting us up during our stay. Nice to see a familiar cheerful face so far away from home! We are staying in the Darlinghurst area; mainly a gay community with a cool trendy vibe. Lucky for us Wendy lives in in the prime location, the city and all it's glory is outside her door step.
First impressions; Well let's just say we now know why so many POMS fly and never leave Sydney's shore. She gives off a warm comfortable feeling of familarity; so many similarities and influences of home. Replications of London are around every corner from the road names - Oxford Street, Kings Cross, they even have their own Hyde park.
Sydney is a city that almost satisfies every palett. A perfectly sized city, vibrant, colourful, busling with people. Set amongst botanical gardens the city rises above her harbours. She does not over shadow but is nestled perfectly in situ. Its difficult to appreciate how much she offers, you need to take a ferry ride away to absorb her in all her glory!
Sydney
Opera House, Sydney Harbour Bridge, Botanical Gardens, Darling Harbour, Manly, Many Pennicluar communities a ferry ride away, bars, clubs, restuarants, Bondi Beach
So by now you should have a good idea of Sydney, what did we do?...
After a civilised day sightseeing on the Friday we complimented our venture but getting rather wasted! Wendy took us to all the local trendy haunts but in good old fashion English spirit we ended up in the KINGS CROSS area; which believe me makes our London's Kings Cross seem low key and discreet. This place was heavy with drunken yobs (including us), seedy women's clubs, prostitutes and every weirdo imaginable congregated here on a Friday night, the once reserved turned into slurring wrecks! Naturally we did our best to fit in and by 8:00am in the morning (YES 8:00AM) after taking pictures of the clock every hour from 4:00am we became part of the messy underworld! You know you have had a good night when the trams become your new best friends. Oh and I'm sure I ate a small dog that resembled a sausage roll! hmm I feel RUFF! Get it!
Sat - Went to the races would you believe. Thinking it would be a fairly casual affair, we stood out like only tourist could, me in my african beach dress and flip flops, Wendy in Jeans and Pete in what looked like Aqua fresh pajamas (he borrowed Will striped shirt! Let's just say in was more like Ascot that a chilled day at the races! And guess what? Pete had his 2nd television appearance..the first being him catching the baseball in San Fran, now being in the background whilst the television crew were talking to one of the race winners! It was hilarious, me and Wendy realised that the camera was pointing straight at us, and being underdressed and camera shy (yes..me camera shy)!) We immediately turned to hide from the camera...only to find Peter doing his best model pose, smouldering for the camera...lol ha ha ha, if only you were there. We were on the big screen and on the tv sets of millions of Ozzie... you never know he might get picked for Australias next top model!
Sun - off to play green bowls! Yes that's right the kind that back home you need grey hair and don't have to have all your own teeth to play! You may be thinking we have gone from drunken yobs to civilised English ladies and gentleman; think again! Green Bowls with a difference. Any age group can play, I was suprised to see groups of youngsters struting their stuff. The prefect Sunday afteroon, sunshining (bit breezey) great people and after a bottle of wine or two wine it makes for a good game old chap! A very very good game, they should encourage more youngsters to play at home; just mention booze and I'm sure they will be flocking!
Another drinking, time for some serious sight seeing, headed to the BLUE MOUNTAINS! Wow stunning views! His a bit of trivia for you, the Blue Mountains are not actually mountains but raised flat plateaus of land, the Blue Mountains is about the size of Belgium and its is names the BLUE mountains, because of the colour reflected of the Ukaliptos Tress (Spelling?) (Gum Trees) See this trip is not just about partying, lots of serious learning going on! The views were breath taking, the mountains are compared to the Grand Canyon, only instead of dry red rock, they are covered in green leafage and trees, made up of sand stone! A must see, breath taking!
Overall Sydney gets a 5 star rating! For the fact it has nearly everything you could ask for in a city! Although I have to say London wins on its size and beautiful historic architecture; if only it had a beach near by hay! Great place, nice people cool vibe!
