Ah lovely Noosa...hmmm a nice change from Brisbane, a small elegant town nestled amongst tranquil rivers and forests. It is the host of manier small islands offering a calming retreat. The perfect place to be at one with nature, so that is what we did. We booked up a 3 day self guided canoeing trip in Noosa National Park, we were joined by the 'Great Danes' and Nick who were out roomies at the hostel and part of our volley ball team (yes volley ball; see it's not all about the goon!)
We were given the essentials, a map, packed up the canoe and set on our way. I was in a 2 man canoe with Wendy, I was at the back steering, which basically meant sticking my paddle in the water while she did most of the work he he he! We explored the lakes before heading to camp, according to the map it should have taken only 1.5 hours...hmmmm 3 hours later and me telling Wendy it's just round the corner whilst paddling against the current was wearing thin! 'You said it was only another 10 minutes' well according the the squiggle on the map supposedly representing a curve in the river it should have been'...ah ha..I soon discovered that the map was as accurate as my spelling, and to scale bascially meant, to fit on the paper! Finally we were there arms about to fall off, but no rest for the wicked, setting up camp, making fires and cooking to do, all before it gets dark. Dark here means 6pm, no I'm not kidding its pitch black by then.
We had a brilliant few days adventuring in Noosa forests! The people we were with made it all the better; the two Danish Lads were so scared of all the creepy crawlies...it's refreshing to here a grown man scream! Whilst collecting fire wood Stephen stumbled upon what we thought was a snake hidden under a log; for the next hour we prodded it with stick poor things trying to see if it was alive or dead! It wasn't until the next day it surfaces and revealed itself as a 'Goanna' lizard, possibly pregnant! Still it was fun to watch the Danes get scared! We will remember the Danes for being so efficent and they will remember us English for what....Tea! Yes, after every effort a cup of tea was needed and I might add deserved!
Great adventure, exactly what we were looking for, onwards and upwards!
