Marie's Travels
Hi Everyone
Back to civilisation now... it has been a bit action packed over the last couple of weeks and I am starting to feel the burn, it is so tiring all this travelling and enjoying myself, ha ha!
I headed off sailing for 3 days round the Whitsunday Islands. There were 12 of us and 2 crew on a little sailing boat called Raggamuffin 2. The weather started off terrible, the sun was shining as we left the marina and then 10 minutes later we are huddled together up on deck in the pouring rain, very cold and wet, it didn't last too long thank goodness but kept returning every now and again! Despite the weather we had a great time, we spent the daytime sailing around, stopping to snorkel and go for walks on some of the islands, the water was great, so warm and we swam with some really big fish! We visited Whitehaven Beach which is the 3rd best beach in the world, if you check out my photos you will see why. The evenings were spent eating and drinking while anchored in some sheltered bay and then off to bed to be rocked to sleep by the water, very nice.
After my sailing trip I took the night bus (17 hours, urgh!!!) down to Rainbow Beach where I booked into my hostel ready for the big team briefing ready for the 4*4 camping safari I was heading out on the next day on Fraser Island. We were put in groups of 11 and were given a jeep to take out with all our camping gear, food etc and set out the next morning to Fraser Island. We took the barge over, there are no proper roads on the island so all the driving is done on the beaches or off road in the rainforest part of the island, it was so much fun, we had a few near misses when it came to rolling the thing. I only took the beach driving as found myself quite petrified of the thing, and we were so top heavy with all the food and drink we had on top, it such a laugh. There were campsites on the island but they had a noise curfew of 9.30pm so we chose to camp on the beach instead, so after 3 days of no washing etc I was pretty filthy! We spent the days exploring the island and then set up camp before dark and drank and ate into the night, we had such a good group, everyone was a lot of fun so that certainly helped. There are Dingo's (wild dogs) on the island and you have to go to the toilet in pairs etc in case they attack you, we had a few visit our camps every night, but they were easy enought to scare off when there are 11 people and a big jeep beeping it's horn and flashing it's lights at them. We visited a couple of lakes on the island, Lake Wabby and Lake Mackenzie, they were so beautiful, the water was so fresh and the colour of it was unbelieveable (again check out the pictures)!
I am in Brisbane now and am having a quick whistle stop tour, exploring as quick as possible as am catching a bus to Bryon Bay tonight, I have a couple of days there and then am heading back to Sydney on the overnight bus on saturday night as have a job starting on Monday in Sydney.
Anyway best get on with my exploring the city as running low on time. Hope everyone is ok and am missing you all lots. Keep the updates coming and don't forget to leave some messages on the message board and check out the photos!
Speak soon and take care
Love Mariexxx
