We got an overnight bus from Don Det to Vietiane and stayed there for the day while the others got their visa for Vietnam. Considering it's the capital there wasn't really a great deal to do so we got the bus the next day to Luang prabang. It was a 10 hour bus journey which may sound a long time but I'm becoming very used to sitting on a bus. The bus broke down after a few hours so we spent about half an hour sat by the road while it got fixed, when it was back up and running the air con had packed up so we all were melting. After about 40 minutes they decided to stop and fix it so we sat by the road for another half an hour.
Luang Prabang was great, there were lots of travelers there and it was very laid back. Two of the girls, Sarah and Sarah, went on a two day trek and me and Casey decided that trekking was to strenuous and to stay and pamper ourselves! On the first day we went to a gorgeous waterfall about an hour from Luang Prabang. We spent about 3 hours there swimming in the pools and watching the locals do crazy jumps off the rope swing. I even jumped off the waterfall, It took me a while to pluck up the courage but I did it eventually.
The next day we treated ourselves to a massage but it wasn't very relaxing! I went for a Laos massage which involves being pulled around and moved into all sorts of unnatural positions! Not exactly what I had in mind! Then we went to a pool to sun ourselves.
The nightlife in Luang Prabang was quite quiet, everywhere in Laos closes at 11.30. We did managed to find a bowling alley which stayed open until 1 am and served beer. It's very strange going to a bowling alley in the middle of Laos!
