On the last 2 days of our world war 1 battle fields tour we visited monuments and cemeteries in and around passion dale. It was absolutely astounding how many cemeteries there was and how many people were buried in them, we visited a German one that held 45 000 people. It was also interesting to visit a battle field (which is now just farmers fields) that is so widely talked about. We also got to go to the Canadian memorial at Vimy Ridge. We were fortunate that it was a nice day and the sun was out, even though the sun reflected off the bright white memorial making hard to see, like going outside on a sunny winter day in Saskatoon. It was huge and you could see what seemed like all of the French countryside from the ridge. We also found my dads, grandfathers, cousins name on it, Curtis Raymond Kitchen. I enjoyed the battle fields tour more than I thought I would. It was very enjoyable to be driven around the French countryside and see all these little towns and villages. Now that I am back in Leiden I will be able to upload pictures from the entire trip to France and I will write about Paris in a different blog. ;)
