A days travelling towards Lisbon, finally stoping three hours out of Lisbon. Stopped in villadodid or something as we told stanky to meet us there from Pamplona (he was busing/training) we got there far early than we though so kept going and left him a message to meet us in Lisbon.
Saturday 12th
Arrived in Lisbon and stayed at a campsite, so good to have a shower. Finally hit good weather so we went to the pool where it was packed out with leather skin ladies and bronzed men.
Met a couple of other vans on the tour which was awesome, real good bunch of kiwis with a few Aussies too...
The campsite was packed out as there was a music festival in Lisbon so it was crazy hectic. We had a flat tire in he van, but luckily there are dual tires on the rear so we could drive around a bit. Gibbo and josh went for a cruise in the van looking for groceries and a tire back. When they came back, they looked very sheepish and had thought we wouldn't notice the massive tv aerial missing off the van roof. However it was the first thing we noticed after hearing them arrive from a mile away. Not a major as we don't use it but just a small hole to fill in. They had gone into a car park and josh had got out to see if the van would clear the height restriction. Thinking it was sweet he gave the thumbs up and in Gibbo went, with the aerial crashing into the car park roof. To make matters worse, they had to reverse 4 cars lined up behind them onto the highway causing a fair bit of rage and confusion.
That night was a quiet one, sitting around with three guys from chch in the van Frank the Tank ( ours is still unnamed) and had a few beers.
Sunday 13th
Went to catch a taxi into Lisbon City but the festival had finished so the lines for taxis was massive.flagged that, plus it was stinking hot and went back to the van. Liam and stinky (who arrived yesterday from Pamplona) went for a drive to find a place to get the tire fixed. As they were backing out there was a massive cracking noise. On seeing it was a log they were told to keep backing. This was followed by another massive cracking noise,as Liam took out a campsite lamppost. Pretty hilarious though not for Liam. The bumper was a bit bruised and a bit of it came off. Nothing a few cable ties couldn't fix.
Still no luck fixing tire as of course it was a Sunday.
In the arvo we managed to get taxis down To the city and have a wander around. So many people selling drugs blatantly as well as sunglasses and hats which is all fricking annoying. And not just dodgy looking people. Some people with drugs were in suits and stuff. We wandered up to the old part of town which had tiny lanes and cobbled streets. Amazing though as people were driving around them, no idea how they manoeuvre without crashing but they obviously have done it for years. Lots of tiles for sale and also things with the rooster on which is the national emblem for Portugal (like nandos? Pretty sure that's where nandos got their brand icon from and the chicken is ment to be Portuguese??..)
Had a mint dinner in a restaurant with wifi (which is key) . Nice to finally eat something different from the salami in a baguette we have been living off since London. Eaten more bread in the last few weeks than I have in a lifetime!!
Went into a catholic cathedral during their mass which had the most amazing acoustics I have ever heard. Liam stubbed his toe and was bleeding everywhere so at this point we decided to cal it a day and make back to camp.
This was the final of the World Cup so the boys went down to the camp bar to watch Argentina get beaten.
