Hello everyone,
As i type this I'm sitting in Bangkok trying to remember all the crazy things we've been up to over the last few days in Hong Kong....
Well, after a 4 and half hour bumpy flight we landed in the biggest airport I've ever been in.... had to get a train into the main terminal building and then it was a 20 minute walk to reach the bus station outside! Finally made it on the bus and after an hour journey into Kowloon, where we were staying, we were in the hustle and bustle of Hong Kong! The place never seemed to sleep! Well, our guidance for our hostel we were staying in said 'do not follow anyone who claims to be from our hostel', so what did we do.... got off the bus and followed a man who claimed he was showing us to the hostel... after walking through a huge building full of asian/african and middle eastern people we were taken to the lift we had to get.... by this point we all thought we were being taken to be slaughtered.... up to the top floor.... and all of a sudden a little pearl of a place was shown to us.... the rooms were matchbox size... but lovely! Dumped our bags and went to explore a little bit of Hong Kong.... wasn't out long, so tired and saving our energy for the morning....
Woke up and got straight into the sight-seeing... straight down to the ferry terminal, got a ton of info and decided to go to Hong Kong island for the day... short ferry trip and a bus to the peak tram led us to a real steep tram that went to the highest peak in the whole area... literally look down at all the buildings... the skyscrapers look small compared to where we were standing... really impressive....
After staying up there and getting a bit cold, we headed back down and walked the streets in search of a spring roll and some nice noodles... nick found a place but the noodles weren't his cuppa tea... didn't manage to find any... although we did find the guiness world records longest escalator.... so we all had a go on that.... walked to a famous temple.... which we could've got high on the incess sticks... needed a fog horn to navigate our way around the place! Then it was a long walk to the bus station, where we decided to get on a bus and go to Repulse Bay... lovely little beach the other side of the island..... nice temple on the water... got some good pictures... then it was another bus to a floating restaurant called jumbo.... far too expensive for us though.... was quite funny trying to actually get to the restaurant, as this Chinese woman was following us in her boat trying to give us a ride.... everywhere we went, she appeared.... after all that, we managed to get a bus and a ferry back to Kowloon and sat and watched the light show from the water.... all the sky scrapers project strobe lights in the sky and put on a show to music.... looked quality....
After the light show, we went on a search for a good chinese.... you'd think that would be easy in Hong Kong; however, it is all real chinesey food... no egg fried rice and chicken chow mein... for a start its in chinese symbols and secondly they like to put real weird meats in with it i.e. pigs trotter, frog, chicken foot etc. Finally we found one where we got a 4 course meal for a fiver.... bargain! And I didn't sit on the toilet all night after it, result!
Next morning we all woke up feeling a bit shattered from yesterday, so we decided to stay in Kowloon and walked to the avenue of the stars.... basically hollywood in chinese style... although none of us knew who the stars were! Then it was off to the science museum... no idea why.... then finally to the night markets where we bought some bargain bits, got our spring rolls and then made it back in to pack....
Got all packed up and ready to get up at 5am to get a bus to the airport to fly to Bangkok...
Was a mad few days, and now sitting in Bangkok... the last couple of days we've managed to book our 30 day adventure.... see a lady boy show, see a ping pong show.... get a suit made.... and now tonight we're off to catch an overnight train to Chiang Mei to do some trekking in the jungle on elephants.... going to need a holiday after all this! Ha.
I'll try and keep in touch as much as I can, but if not... take care everyone.
Only 30 days until I'm home... mad!
Much love,
Marcus x
