Hi Everyone,
Time for Bali.... and a little end to Australia...
Well, we met the girls at the airport (jade and katie did) and then it was straight out for them... doing the usual sites... whilst me and nick went
over to Manly to surf... pretty much spent the time, up and until we left for Bali, just spending time with the girls and get bits sorted for our flight!
None of us were too sure whether or not we were actually on the flight to Bali.... got to the airport... and our flight number wasn't on the board...
s***.. went to qantas... they said they didnt fly there and that Jet Star (a cheapo airline) was going there via Melbourne... asked jet star and they
said we were on it but it would take 3 hours longer due to the stop-over at Melbourne... happy days... so 12 hours later we arrived in Bali....
what a nightmare... didn't have Aussie dollars or american dollars to pay for our Bali Visa, so after getting to the front of the
que we had to get out of line and go to a cash-point... after drawing out 2 million ruphees we then had to que up for about 2 hours in sweat-shop
conditions... got offered a quick que jump for a small bribe by the immigration but we decided against it... finally got through, got our bags and
waited for a taxi... didnt know what to expect... drove for about 10 minutes and then appeared our 5* hotel.... what a hotel! Stunning! Massive...
king bed in room with all the luxuries you can imagine... a bath..! a big thing for us! Huge pools, free all you can eat breakky... right on the beach,
had everything we could want after 10 and half months of travelling! Had the best night sleep... couldn't wait for the breakky in the morning....
Woke up.... and put on a show at breakfast... ate until i couldn't physically move... including cakes in my pockets to take up to the room! Spent
the day exploring the resort, walking along Kuta beach, looking at the big surf breaks out to sea and taking a picture of a monkey sitting crossed
legged on a chair... booked our New Year's Eve party at the hotel... an exclusive group of 150 people from the hotel, which included food...
entertainment... champagne, free beer, every you could want for a grand total of £20! Loved it! Made the most of the free food, as always,
spent the night blowing these paper trumpets, celebrated the new year with us 4 raising a glass of shampoo and then it was off for a walk down
to kuta beach to see the mayhem of 2 million mopeds, illegal fireworks and a beach that was packed in the pitch black... was quality night....
and then it was back to our room to look forward to chilling out for the next couple of days around the hotel!
Well thats exactly what we did do... jade sat around the hotel having cocktails and massages, whilst me and Nick spent the days either in the
gym or surfing... loved it!
We decided to extend our time in the Dynasty hotel, just for one night though, as it cost US$130 a night and then me and Jade got in contact with
the man we worked for in Perth... we arranged to meet up with his family at his villa and they would take us out for the day... turned up, after
getting ripped off by a taxi driver (lesson learnt there) and 9 of us squeezed into a 7-seater people carrier.... was a quality day... went to a place
called Tahna lot... where there was a huge temple carved out of rock in the middle of the ocean... touched the holy snake there, got blessed and
saw a few weird sites i.e. a huge 18ft snake, a bat hanging from a shop and other things... went to Ubud and its monkey forest, where Jade nearly
got attacked by one... they were everywhere... jumping all over us! Then it was out for some food and back to the hotel....
worked out really well with the hotel and moving accommodation... Joe from Perth wanted to move out of his luxury 2 bedroom villa into another one
so we moved into his old one... 2 master bedrooms, internet, sky tv... the lot... with our own pool... all for £8 a night!
Spent a day relaxing before arranging a big day out again..... also went to a place called Nusa Dua... where there was huge surf... had to paddle out quite a distance
though, but when me and Nick were out there they were about 3 metres high! Spent the day doing that, whilst the girls sunbathed on the beach.... had a beer in
a pub where pool was free and we had our own personal waitress, then headed back to the hotel.....
Sorted with Joe for him to take us out for the day around Bali.... had a 9-seater car and we headed for another monkey forest and temple, then to Sanur
Wildlife and Safari park... was quality there, get taken out in a safari car (just like you would in Africa) and all the animals are roaming around... also went to
a waterpark, where we got to stroke a tiger and have a cuddle with an orangutan... then it was back to Seminyak, where we all tried Somatran food... a little
bit weird... loads of bowls get put on the table and you pay for what you eat, leave what you don't want.... no knives and forks, just your fingers... so got a bit
messy with all the curry sauces... good experience though!
Spent the next few days around Seminyak and surfing and buying loads of DVDs... weather wasn't too great so we decided to have a real lazy day and only went out once to the supermarket and then stayed in watching DVD's all day... the weather was s*** and we all
needed to chill out.... out for a meal again at night... looking forward to the waterpark tomorrow!
Woke up and caught a taxi down to kuta.... had a quick look at the bali bombing's memorial and then headed for the waterbom park... bucketed
down just before but didn't matter... best place to be is a waterpark! Spent the day going on all the rides and then headed to Bubba Gump's for
an expensive meal... was well worth it though... top food! Headed home... stopping off buying 17 DVD's... then chilled out!
We decided to go to a place called Padang-Padang where the surf was supposed to be huge... took about an hour and half to get there, in the middle of nowhere... a lovely
beach and a blue sky greeted us... but no waves, well there was small one's... me and nick paddled out but not much luck... photo's don't do it justice... the girls
laid on the beach whilst getting hassled by looky-looky women... then all of a sudden the sky colour changed to a purple-gray colour and it went from a beautiful
day to a complete monsoon! Could not find a taxi for love nor money and we found ourselves trekking up a huge hill.... finally managed to get ourselves a taxi...
headed down to Kuta and Seminyak and the whole island was flooded... up and past car bumpers... loads of the roads were inaccessible but our taxi driver still
ploughed on through... could even feel it on our feet... the roads stayed like this until we left..... ferry trip tomorrow... hope the weather holds up.....
Woke up to the news of an indonesion ferry sinking leaving 246 people missing... a good start for us, as we were about to go on a ferry trip to
Lombogan island... all went really smoothly though, jade got her sick sickness tablets free on the boat, which was a first... took about an hour
to get to the island, when we got there we were straight out on the glass bottom boat, the banana boat and snorkelling around our cruiser...
out boat also had a waterslide attached to the back of it so we made the most of that...
Well, last day was spent surfing and relaxing with another massage before going out for a meal with the fella who we worked for in Perth...
Bali's been nice, very relaxing and full of luxury... enjoyed every minute of it! Probably haven't detailed everything in this blog, but gives me an idea of
what we've been up to.... oh and we had 3 full-body massages, each one costing £3 for one hour... can't beat that!
Off to Hong Kong... don't know anything about this place (Apart from it being in China)... got some dodgy hostel in Kowloon or something...
Keep in touch,
Lots of Love,
Marcus x
