We finally arived in Bangkok and were happy to find Mum and Rob waiting at the airport for us, with a name card and everything! So after a few hugs and kisses and a long drive to our hotel, (the taxi man got lost!) we caught up with a few drinks and got an early night.
The next morning we headed to Wat Phra Kaew and the Grand Palace for a little culture. Wat Phra Kaew is a shrine to the Emerald Buddha and the Grand Palace is the former residence of the Monarch and, as such, it is fittingly extravagant with over 100 buildings in the complex. The Emerald Buddha has Royal Robes - each season the king himself changes the clothes of the Buddha!
We then headed to Wat Pho which is where the famous Reclining Buddha is housed. The Gold Leaf and Mother of Pearl Buddha is 46m long and 15m high! We made a donation and received a pot of coins that we dropped into a line of copper pots - we're not sure exactly what this was for - but we think it was for luck and future happiness, so money well spent!
