We surprised Dad and Rob at the airport early in the morning and took them back to our aprtments for a much needed sleep - think they were a little tender after a few days at the Hong Kong Sevens (too much excitement apparently!). After a night in Yungaburra we headed through the Tablelands and up to Kuranda, which is situated high up in the hills, just north of Cairns. It is a lovely little village, with lots of markets, geared up for tourists with souvenir shop after sovenir shop - but if you ever did want to buy a purse made from kangaroo scrotum, or a necklace made from crocodile teeth then this would be the place to find it!! We spent the night in a canvas cabin, deep in the rainforest of Cape Tribulation. When we say rainforest, we mean that literally - it rained, and rained, and rained!! Then it rained some more. We picked up our hire car, feeling a little bit worse for wear (must have been something we ate!), and set off on our journey up the coast. First stop was Port Douglas which is a small beach town, very quiet and upmarket. We set out on our long trip to Australia early on Saturday morning, and after a panic with tight connecting flights and lots of departure tax (!) we finally made it to Australia. We landed in Cairns and headed straight for a few hours sleep after being awake for over 30 hours!
