We decided to have a smaller breakfast today as we were going to the airport late morning and would be getting free stuff in the lounge! As it turned out, our breakfast wasn't any smaller than any other day, just from a different café! We had bacon and egg on turkish bread and ham, eggs and avocado on Turkish bead with cheese. It was really good.
We had arranged a pick up from a shuttle service at 1000, and sure enough they were there on time to collect us. We had chosen this mode of transport as it can cost up to $80 for a taxi and this only cost us $36- bargain. The ride only took 35mins, we were quite surprised as we had been told it took almost an hour.
After a smooth check-in and a quick wander around the terminal, we headed to the Air New Zealand lounge. It was quite big with some nibbles, salad, soup, cakes and biscuits on offer. They also had an amazing choice of really good wines to choose from. We settled down in a couple of arm chairs before helping ourselves to some wine and nibbles. Not long after that, they made an announcement that they would now be serving lasagne. Unfortunately for us, we were still full from breakie, so missed out.
It was soon time to board so we made our way to the gate and on board our 777-200. The business class on this aircraft type is a herringbone config, basically we were in individual pods. We were given the standard pre departure champagne, watched a safety brief then on our way. The flight is scheduled to take 7hours 35mins but we had good weather conditions so it was only going to take just under 7hours.
As we were in the individual pods, whilst the meal was being served, there was the option to use the ottoman at the end of your seat for a dinning partner to use and they could set a table for 2 up in the middle! The ottoman even had a seat belt in case of turbulence .For lunch we started with warm nuts and olives, then the starter was tea smoked salmon. Andrew chose the chicken with butternut squash risotto and Mandy had chilli garlic prawns on linguine. Dessert was strawberries and cream ice cream and a rhubarb and ginger cobbler. We then had a cheese course with a glass of port. The food was quite good, but not a patch on Singapore Airlines. The service had been good, and really friendly.
After dinner, Mandy returned to her seat and we settled in to watch a film. Andrew watched End of Watch and Mandy watched Seven Psychopaths. Just before arriving we were served afternoon tea which consisted of Tea, fruit, a scone and some sannies. The scone was really tasty and the cup of tea went down a treat.
After a very easy journey through Immigration, not at all like when you arrive in the US, we headed out to the arrivals hall where Trevor and Sarah were waiting for us. We headed to their house, lovely place and not far from the beach, where we spent the night catching up over pizza, beer and some wine with the whole family.
