Well guys, its still all going fine here in Hawaii, but not for long. In just a few houirs from now we say our farewells and Alohas to Hawaii and head to the white sands of Fiji. This may be a brief blog entry, as we have just a few minutes until we need to check out of our hotel.......but we are making the most of every little bit of luxury we can, as from here on its hostels and camping all the way...........
Well, since i last wrote we have been rather busy. We headed inland to Maona waterfall. It is hidden in the centre of O'hao and apparently the backdrop to many Lost episodes and film sets! The walk through the rainforest wasnt tiring and was very easy (at least i thought so), we got the chance to see plants and wildlife that isnt really founfd any where else other than hawaii. It was so green and lush, and really nice to get away from the hustle and bustle of Waikiki. When we finally arrived at the waterfall it was so beautiful, crystal clear and very inviting. It was so difficult not to strip off and jump straight in....but for some reason (im not sure how safe the qualiyt and content of the water is) we werent allowed; but i was ok, i made do with meditating and 'feeling at one' with nature....he he he.
The view from the top was amazing and we were so close t othe falling clouds. That was a pretty full on day, but nothing compared to the next one. We decided to head to the northshore by public transport (it takes over 2 hours by bus, compared to a 45 minute car journey), but it was great fun. We finally were living and meeting the real people of Hawaii, Travlling through suburbs, housing areas and non tourist areas meant that we got the chance to talk to people who moved here from the mainkand or were born and brought up here. We definately met some crazy folk too, an old drunken surfer boy, who wore his t-shirt on his head and shark teeth round his neck definately stick into my mind the most. He wobbled and danced as we waited for the bus........we fortunately/unfortunately (you decide which one) got talking to him. He was telling us about how all he wanted to do was go home, eat macoroni cheese and have a nap. He repaeted this to us so many times and told us that it wasnt fair coz he had to 'go play drums tonight, yep....i gotta play the drums'. He ridiculed all he could about us, our footwear, the fact that i had 'short' shorts on and not 'boardies'...."no wonder you girls dont surf". And when clare stood up to him and gave him a run for his money he said "wow, i sure aint never seen a rebel in glasses before". What a character. But thisjust added to the laid back nature of the northshore, we visited Sunset beach where the sand was like sesame seeds and so soft on the feet, the sea was clear too. It was where alot of pro surf tournmaents happen, so who knows, i may have stood in the same place as kelly slater....mmmmm!
Well guys, i have so much more to tell you, about my journey to the northshore and my amazing trip to the polynesian cultural centre, but i need to dash and check out now, so i will write again soon....probably in NZ as they dont have too much access to electricity on some of the islands.
Alooooha and bye for now!
