Hey guys,
Well after a very long and tiring 17 hours on the plane we finally arrived at our hotel (yes i did say hotel - well its my birthday.....ive got to have some luxury; oh and thanks to all those who recommended we get a hotel rather then a hostel - after that journey im not sure i couldve shared a dorm without there been nastey consequences, or even try to be friendly and smiley ;-) It was pretty late when we arrived but the streets of Waikiki were busy with break dancers, shoppers, locals and tourists. We didnt get to sample much of the nightlife, we just topped up on some much needed food and water and headed for the comfort of our cosey hotel beds.
The night was weird as my body was still in UK time, and my sleep was a little unsettled but when woke in the morning all was fine as the view from our window was just amazing. Alongside us was Ala Wai Canal and directly behind that was a golf course (yes, yet another golf course...tut) overlooked by some of the most amazing hill tops, trees and grren land. The rising sun shone so beautifully on the water and it was just picture perfect, so it didnt take us long before we'd donned our trainers and were going for our first hawaiian run alongside the canal....so refreshing! The rest of the day was followed by our first visit to the famous waikiki beach, where we swam sunbathed and people watched till the sun set. The water was glorious and it was so nice to be able to step into the sea once again, but like i expected, it was very commercialised, full of tourists and very much a 'city beach'......still loving it though and it has alot of character.
We spent the evening wandering the streets and watching the most amazing street artist (which we had to keep neglecting in search for shelter from the hawaiinan blessings - rain) but we stuck it out and saw the most amazing picture a guy could ever do using spray paint whilst dancing and juggling in between.
Im sure tonight will bring us much more adventures in terms of nihgtlife, as today is halloween and all day people have been dressed up in costumes and scaring the streets of Waikiki.........oh the joys!
I will tell you all about the ghoulish actions next time i write; until then be well :-)
