Today, unfortunately, is check-out day at La Digue. It's been such a beautiful place to stay (with the exception of my angry entry yesterday) that more days to explore would be ideal. Today, however, was not ending so fast!... this morning Kurtis and I hopped boat to go snorkelling for our first time ever. We boarded the boat, which was guided by 2 men about our age and were super friendly. Kurtis and I actually would not have known about their services had one of them not approached us the evening before to present us their business card.
Anyway, we went on a 15min boat ride to the Coco Island, a snorkellers paradise. With us on the boat was 1 other couple as well. We followed along other chartered boats that organized the same kind of event but for different costs, so when we finally reached our destination there were about 20-25 people in the water. Unfortunately our snorkels were in the luggage that never arrived, so Kurtis and I had to settle for rental pieces. Once plunging into the ocean with a depth of about 5ft, we were off to explore the ocean floor. Immediatly we were able to see a bunch of different sea-life; turquise and purple fish, sea urchens and some really weird long and skinny fish (no they weren't eels!). We also managed to grab hold of a sea turtle, which you will see pictures of soon. We swam around for hours before it was time to head back to the dock. Overall the snorkelling experience was amazing and a great way to pass the time!
Since check-out from our lodge was at 10:30am, we were forced to ride our bikes with our heavy bags in the basket. This was quite a workout as we attempted to explore the other half of the island. Time only allowed us so far since we had to catch our ferry back to Mahe Island. Another nauseating ride was ahead, but this time Kurtis was the one to feel the effects instead of me.
We made to back to Mahe Island by 6:30pm where we caught a taxi to our next bed & breakfast. Once we arrived we were greeted by a very gracious host who showed us to our room where we again, passed out from a hard day's work.
