As mentioned in our last blog, our journey from Hoi An to Nha Trang did not get off to the greatest start as we were not picked up until 7.15pm when we were supposed to be picked up at 5.30pm. We were picked up by a small minivan assuming that we would be going to the bus station about 5 minutes away to get on our bus to Nha Trang. This was not the case as we headed into the countryside surrounding Hoi An before we were eventually dropped off at the side o a buy road and told to wait for 10 minutes. After waiting for about 20 minutes, a bus eventually pulled up and we jumped on. The bus was another sleeper bus and wasn't too bad to be fair. We were on the second row from the back and there were some Dutch guys behind us who unfortunately had foot odour issues and kept farting so Beth wasn't the happiest. However, the journey was fairly comfortable given our recent experiences and although I didn't sleep too much, Beth slept for a while before we pulled into Nha Trang at 6.30am.
We we got off the bus, we figured that we weren't too far from our hotel so after asking directions we scuttled off down the street. Unfortunately, we were then told we were going in the wrong direction so doubled back on ourselves before again being told we were heading the wrong way. What should have been a 10 minute walk turned into about 40 minutes as a result. As we were so early arriving at the hotel, the room wasn't ready so we grabbed some breakfast and booked our onward bus to Mui Ne for Tuesday before we were able to get into our room at 11am much to or relief as we were both in desperate need of a shower!!
We slept for a few hours after checking into the room before we headed out for tea and found a great restaurant called Lanterns. The food was some of the best we have had in Vietnam so far as Beth had a fish clay pot and I had a pork clay pot. We will definitely be going there again before we leave.
We decided to go to the beach on Saturday morning which is a two minute walk from our hotel. We spent a good few hours lying on a section of the beach which was quite quiet and cooling off in the sea. It's not the greatest beach we have been to but it is nice and the sea is nice and refreshing when it gets too hot. One thing which is very noticeable about Nha Trang is the amount of Russion tourists here. It seems to be a massive Russian tourist resort and all of the signs are in Russian and / or English.
Tonight, we have been for a walk along the promenade which lines the each before going for an Italians which was okay. Think we are probably better off sticking to the Vietnamese food while we are here. Overall, we like Nha Trang although it is definitely a tourist resort similar to those you would get on Spain or Greece.
