On Saturday morning, we managed to have a bit of a lie in as we were still knackered after the bus journey to Buenos Aires. I'm not quite sure how Beth was so tired after a 13 hour sleep on the bus but she was! Anyway after getting up, we got ready and Beth generously agreed that I could listen to the match in the apartment before going for a walk. The less said about that the better!!!!!
We left the apartment and decided to go for a walk around an area quite close by called Puerto Madero which is an old port which has been modernised into hotels, bars and restaurants. It reminded us of the Quayside back at home. Whilst there we bumped into some kind of vintage car rally and got some good photos of old Ferrari's, Porsche's and Mercedes. Whilst walking around, we had noticed that the sky looked threatening despite our apps telling us the weather would be nice. Sure enough, it started to spit then lash down with rain while I had a fleece on and Beth was wearing a skirt!! We sought refuge in what looked like a tall ship and were surprised that it was only 2 pesos to have a look around. It was quite interesting to have a look at the ship which was built in 1875 and it kept us out of the rain for half an hour. We eventually decided to brave the elements and walked back towards the apartment via a cafe. After much indecision, Beth decided to go for a hot chocolate with a marshmallow in. She was a bit upset when it was only warm rather than hot and after demolishing it in 5 minutes while I had still hardly touched my litre of Quilmes. Beth even resorted to researching about Buenos Aires whilst I finished my beer.
We had a pretty quiet night on Saturday where we cooked up some steak and had some more red wine which went down a treat. We watched one of the few English DVD's in the apartment and chilled out.
For some crazy reason on Sunday morning, I decided that a jog would be a good idea in the area we visited yesterday. After the diet of steak, red wine and Quilmes of the last few days, this proved a bit more difficult than first thought but it was good to get some exercise. Beth went for a power walk when a random guy stopped her In her stride. He didn't speak a word of English and kept touching her shoulders so she presumed he was some sort of personal trainer attempting to teach her about her posture (she hopes). She was a little freaked out, smiled politely and walked away with a very straight back in the hope that he would leave her alone.
Today, we have visited the market at San Telmo which it hosts every Sunday. This was literally taking place outside our apartment block and stretched for at least a mile along the road. It was interesting to look at all of the different stalls with loads of arts and crafts and watch the various street performers which created a good atmosphere. I must give a massively honourable mention to the empanadas we had for dinner. Immense is the word!!
After visiting the market, we went to the Museo Historico Nacional which houses quite a bit of Argentinian military stuff. It was quite interesting if a bit short but it was free as we only had 50 pesos on us and didn't want to give this as a donation!!!
Another quiet night beckons with the chef's hat being passed from Beth to me. Tomorrow we are looking to book our bus to Mendoza for Friday and we are going to the La Recoleta area of Buenos Aires to see a massive cemetery. Sounds like fun!!
Just a quick note about Di Canio - hahahahahahahahahahahaha
