The weekend is, again, just behind the corner. It feels like the week just started and now its Thursday already. Well, maybe it's the fact that we came home from Krabi on Tuesday and have only had two days of school this week. Krabi was awesome. We took the bus from Bangkok which took 12 hours. The bus was really nice and the journey went well until… I woke up to a sound that reminded me of someone being tortured. It was 6am (2hrs before arrival) and the driver had put on a thai music video. It was on full volume and I had a speaker next to my ear. Even though I had my iPod on full volume I couldn´t hear my own music. So after our ears had been raped by thai music for two more hours, we finally arrived at Krabi.
From Krabi town we took a boat to Raylay were we spent the next four days. We got a cheap bungalow at Rapala (2 euros/night/person), which Indian cuisine I can strongly recommend. The next day we went Deep water soloing. For those who don´t know, it is basically climbing without ropes over deep waters and if you slip or can´t get any higher you fall into the ocean. It was one of the most adrenalin filled sports I´ve ever tried. In between climbing we had lunch at a secluded beach. The day was absolutely perfect, until… we were switching places our boats battery died and the captain couldn´t get the engine started. He didn´t seem to worry about it so we just drifted for one or two hours before getting to a beach with other boats. Still the day was a complete success! On day three we rented climbing gear and went to a nearby location. The routes were pretty easy which was perfect for me as a beginner. Like DWS, I really loved climbing and we are already planning our next trip. When we were supposed to get back to Bangkok we learned that there were no seats available in the bus so the only option was to take a plane. It turned out to be a great thing. Even though it was like 30 euros more by plane, the 1hr trip compared to 12hrs was definitely worth it. All in all I can say that the weekend trip to Krabi was one of the nicest trips I´ve ever taken. We had perfect weather, low season so it wasn´t crowded and the climbing was so exciting. I´m definitely going back another time.
After Krabi it was back to reality. We have almost completed one of our five courses. We now have a couple of assignments due next week, which means that we´ll stay in Bangkok this weekend.. I can´t say that school is difficult or stressing, but we all agree that this is how we like it. Sucking in the culture is still something we do every day so we won´t be coming home empty handed.
As a goodbye, I´d like to give everyone who is thinking about going Deep water soloing some advice. When you fall down from 10 meters or more, make sure that you have your legs tightly together… My friend learned it the hard way by getting a couple of liters of seawater up in the "youknowwhat"…
