Just when you thought that I wouldn´t keep my word..
Sorry for the delay on my blog. So, almost three weeks have gone by since I got out of the plane at Bangkok international airport. I don´t know if it´s laziness or just the out of place feeling you get in a new city but I just haven´t found time to start my writing. The first week was all about finding an apartment since the ones that were recommended didn´t satisfy me or my current roommate. After we´d seen a couple of different condos we fell for the very sympathetic Elephant tower. The apartment is really luxurious so we thought that we´ll probably only once be living like this. After we had our apartment rented, school started. The first days were naturally filled with obligatory registrations for this and that. This, however, caused a minor culture chock. Nothing was planned or done beforehand and on top of it all the air-condition broke. So we ended up sitting in a room, approx 45 degrees (Celsius), for an hour before we changed to a room with air-condition. A couple hours later we went home. Only one of our four tasks got fulfilled.
During these weeks we have learned that nothing comes easy in Thailand if you don´t speak the language. People are really friendly and helpful, but because they don´t understand English, you usually end up in a worse situation than before you asked for help.
Bangkok is an awesome city, although we have only seen a fracture of it. Chatuchak weekend market, RCA and Silom have blown my mind. The traffic jams are terrible and it seems like there´s some kind of a conspiracy going on. It seems like every time we try to go somewhere the direction we are taking is jammed while the other direction runs smoothly. Just as if there´s someone following our moves and reporting to the locals where the farangs (foreigners in thai) are going. I don´t know, maybe I´m being paranoid…
The best part of the week is of course the weekends. On top of it all we only have school from Tuesday to Friday. Just last weekend we went to Ko Samet, a beautiful island 3 hour south east from Bangkok. The trip didn´t begin that well because a dog got hit by a car just in front of our cab. Our cabdriver gave it its last blow by driving over its head. Later in the evening, on Ko Samet, a stray dog brought me a dead kitten..
I don´t want to bore you right from the start. If I wrote about all the weird and interesting things that have happened it would take a couple pages more. I´ll try to write more often so I can brake down what is happening, so for now Pob gan mai, see you later!
Btw. We just ordered tickets to Bali and Malaysia in October, so yeah, I´m having the time of my life!
