Macklen's Euro Trip
Hi! today was our day in amsterdam. We went to the Van Gogh musuem - over 200 paintings in their collection...it was great! They also had paintings, drawings, and prints by other artists I enjoy: Gaugain, Manet, and Pisarro! Then we walked to the Red Light District, prostitution is legal in the netherlands, so women stand in windows for 12 hours straight selling sex...it was really interesting to see them tapping on the windows to attract the passer-byers. After that we went to the Anne Frank Musuem, we saw the actual place where she and her 7 family members stayed for 2 years. It's above a warehouse, where her father worked, and they occupied 3 small rooms and an attic. We were allowed to walk through it all...they had the rooms preserved, however the actual artificats weren' in place...they had a few though in glass cases. The original wall paper was still up in Anne's room. She decorated the room with magazine photos of her favorite movie stars, etc...and then in the viewing room they had her actual diary open so we could look at it - it was really powerful to be there in a place where such a loving family was hiding from such horrible things. It makes me sad for the world.
I wish you all a wonderful day/night. And I will write again soon! Love you, mack.
