Macklen's Euro Trip
AGAIN = THIS PIC ISNT FROM BERLIN...BUT YOU HAVE TO PUT A PIC IN. SORRY! ok. so berlin has been a busy trip . only 2 days to see the city. not enough by any standards, if you ask me...but i am just waiting until i am on my own so i can spend more time in each place...about a week (5=7 days). yesterday on our first day we walked the city, mostly around the center...right between eastern and western berlin. we saw all kinds of monuments, museums, checkpoint charlie (where the american soldiers faced the russian soldiers at a checkpoint line at the border between the 2 sides.) The most interesting, and emotional thing we saw was the Jewish memorial. It is about a city block full of concrete mini=towers. each is about 7 feet long, 4 feet wide, and 3=20 feet tall...it was beautiful, i have to figure out how to post pics, because it was very effective. I sat for a long time thinking, writing, and asking myself questions about the world, especially thinking about the war today...not that it is anywhere near the persecution of the jews...but you know, we shoudl always be aware of our histories, to learn from them. oh, we have figured out a kind of a system. we go to the market below our hostel and buy breakfast and lunch things (sandwiches, fruit, juices, etc...) all for 5 euros and this works for both meals! it is perfect and cheap! then we usually find a local place for dinner. funny story! our first night we went to a market area with a lot of shops and restaurants. we found a place we thought we would like and looked in our price range. it was nice inside, we foudn a seat, and looked at the bar...above the bar were about 8 glowing pictures of men (from teh waist up) either in bowties, holding champagne bottles, or smiling slyly...it was a gay bar! hilarious! we were the stupid touists...but it was a funny experience. food was good. no one else was there except for another tourist=lookign couple. we laughed! more in a minute...
