Macklen's Euro Trip
Hallo! It's friday night...about 11:30pm my time and I'm all showered and ready for bed, after an update and then a chat with the wonderful brandon!
To catch you up, last night we ate at a very nice Czech restaurant that Patrick heard was great from both his mother and a friend of his that studied here for a year. The place is called U Flecku and serves their own brew and authentic Czech food. It was very nice, we sat at a large table...basically you just pick a few seats and sit right next to your neighbors, to fit in as many people as possible. It's very quaint. I had some beef medalions in a cream sauce and bread dumplings, topped off with a dark beer (which i usually don't drink...but it was lovely!!!) There was a cute old man playing the acordian in our dining area, which livened up the place a lot. Everything here is so special and beautiful in its tradition. I love it!
Today I went to a few galleries to check out (Czech out!) the art scene. I saw a Dali exhibit with about 100 prints...not sure if they were authentic or not...seemed a bit sketchy, but it was only about 60Czech Krowns, which equals about $3 US...so I figured, why not? Then I met back up with Patrick and Meghan and we got some meat and cheese at a market to take to a close-by park for lunch...(hint: we stole the loaf of rye bread that was on our table the night before...so we could make lunch sandwiches - it was perfect!) Then we wondered about the city and split off again...they back to the hostel...me to a tiny local art gallery for about an hour.
This is probably my most favorite place here now...it was full of paintings, prints, drawings, etc. by local artists from Czech, Russia, and France. The gallery owner was very helpful and excited to show me his most favorite things...he was so gracious...we talked about art school and etchings. He reminded me a lot of my dad; and he also has a daughter my age in art school. I bought some precious little prints (etchings): 2 by a Czech artist, and 2 by a Russian artist...so excited to have International artwork to bring home and show you all!
Allright...that's about it. Tonight was a lazy night, packing stuff up - because we leave for Paris tomorrow morning on a 12 hour train ride. Then it's to Greece I go!!!! I'm so excited - been looking at pics on the web! Anyways, take care and love to everyone. Thanks for your fun comments on my message board - it makes home feel closer! Love, mack
