So here I am in Madawaska. I am now a fully fledged 'mooser', no longer a groupie, seeming to follow the moose tour from one place to the next.
The plan is to stay 2 nights in the hostel, and camp 2 night in Alconquin park. The hostel is really cool, you cant really call it a hostel, as it is like staying in someone house as it is so homely. The hostel is basically a medium sized house, in a small village, giving it a laid back feel about it. Despite hiking and bike riding theres not much to do as a vehicle is essential for getting around, so ive been chilling out on the sofa watching dvd's and sociallising (which means drinking loads) around the campfire, toasting mashmallows. Its been really relaxing and chilled out-so its all good!
Early hours of the second morning, a group of 7 of us packed our essentials and set off for ALGONQUIN PARK, just 20 mins drive from the hostel, for our 2 night camping expedition. The bus driver was picking up the previous group of campers who looks dirty, cold and miserable, so we didnt know what to expect. The bus driver kitted us out with essential camping gear, gave us a map (that was so old that we could not make it out) and pointed us in the direction of our canoes.
So we set off down lake victoria in our canoes, kitted up with all our camping gear to find our perfect camping pitch. As the map were basically illegible, we ended up going the wrong way and had to make a 2hr detor back to one of the first camping pitch we passed. But it was all good as the weather was perfect, the sun was out, not a cloud in the sky with a gentle breeze to keep the BO under control.
After a hard day of canoeing and setting up the campsite, we settled down for food and beers. We had just got the campfire going when the weather changed and it started raining, but it just added to the effect as we had to huddle together around the campfire to keep warm (nothing like a little huddling to get to know each other-you know what I mean ladies...)
After a cold, 'wet', first night, (but I managed to keep 'warm'), we awoke to beautiful, clear skies the next day, so enjoyed a day of hiking, canoeing, sunbathing and swimming and most importantly sociallising (getting absolutely hammered). So all in all had an amazing time and couldnt have asked for better group of people and we had such a wicked laugh. Definately the highlight of my trip so far.
I then spent the next 3 night in the madawaska hostel chilling out in front of the tv as it was cold and wet outside-so we stayed in doors 'keeping warm'.
Have arranged to go to Toronto for 2 nights, so lets see if Toronto can top Madawaska.
