I am now offically a 'gypo', a 'pikie', and in true 'gypo' style with the wind in our hair we hit the open road. Theres alot to be said for the freedom of the road. You can go whereever, whenever and stay for however long......its just awesome!!! It is somewhat liberating living life on the road, parked up by the beaches by night, eat breakfast on the beach by morning and swim in the sea by day. What more could you ask for.
However, in living like a gypo comes smelling like a gypo too. But you make do. Washing in the sea, fresh water streams, hygiene washes out of bowls or in the public toilets...but you make do. It just adds to the adventure.
So after leaving Auckland we headed north along the coast to discover what New Zealand has to offer. And what a great country it is. It remindes me very much of home, with the bountiful, lush countryside of Wales, except for the tropical vegetation that dots the landscape. New Zealand hosts beautiful beaches, which golden sands with clear turquoise waters and best of all the beaches are usually empty with not a soul on them, so you get the whole beach to yourself. We came across one beach that we called 'eden' as it was just a piece of heaven with white sand and warm clear turquoise waters and we had it all to ourselves-paradise!!!
So we took you time headed north along the coast passed the bay of islands with is called that as it hosts a number of beautiful island of the coast. Then we headed to the most northernly point Reinga which has a lighthouse and the famous signpost displaying the distance to such places as london tokoyo, new york etc...
So we took our time traveling up the coast, sleeping by the beaches by nights and enjoying the wealth of beauty the country has to offer and simply relaxing in the warm weather.
We then headed back to Auckland to enjoy a few day back in the big city.....especially looking forward to the pubs!!!!
