For someone who has never taken a flight more than approximately 3 hours, much less left the country (I am the only one on the team who has never been out of the United States), I already knew the flight was going to be an interesting experience by itself.
The team met at the church and then took a limo bus to Chicago O'hare airport. Considering there was 11 of us, all with 2 checked bags, the check-in process went rather smoothly. With a weight limit of 50 pounds per checked bag, I was relieved to find that my bag was only 43 pounds. I tend to overpack, especially to new places. We had an hour and a half delay in Chicago, mostly due to connecting flights that were running late. With our overlap in Brussels at only 2 hours, we started some serious praying on the plane because we knew that 30 minutes is not enough time
to go back thru security and get to the connecting flight, especially in an international airport. I finally got to see the movie BOLT (Disney Pictures). It was a very cute movie.
If anyone reading this has seen the original "Home Alone" movie, then you will have a visual as to what our group was facing when we landed in Brussels. Once thru more security, we were speed walking to the opposite side of the airport and only had about 30 minutes. To get to our terminal for the connection, we had to take a bus and that is when we received a great blessing. We learned that the connecting flight was delayed an hour, which gave our team enough time to safely make it to the connection and start boarding. God is great!!!
