Hi from Swakopmund! I understand that summer has arrived in the UK!!? Well I survived another fortnight of building walls and patrolling for elephants and I'm still here to tell the tales- even after finding a scorpion in my roll mat and having a good old rummage on my sleeping bag!! The last two weeks have been equally fantastic with the first wall being completed early on so we moved to a new site. We all thought that we were jinxed as we got stuck in the river bed twice and then when digging the foundations the water pipes were hit twice- not good in the desert! Anyway it all got back on track and the building has progressed very well. Patrol week was also very good but no charging elephants this week and only one bull visited the camp- but he was very chilled that night thankfully!
Thank you for all the birthday wishes and yes it was fantastic. The gin and tonics started before 11 am (yes it can be very civilised in the desert). One of the ladies had a solar shower with her so for a real treat I had a hot shower on my birthday. To round it off there was a lot more G and Ts and a chocolate cake made in a fire pit- fantastic! An awesome place to have a birthday!
I'm back in Swakopmund for the weekend and generally taking it easy- possibly paragliding tomorrow morning off the dunes as I didn't do the sky dive last time I was here. My plans after that are still alittle up in the air but by the end of the weekend they should be sorted!!! Take care all and enjoy the sun :-)
